Out of the Beauty Box - An Insider's View

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to help Koren (aka Enkore Makeup) and Elessa (aka Pursebuzz) with their first Out Of The Beauty Box tour in Los Angeles. I had a lot of fun, even if my sole purpose was to be the demonstration model for applying makeup to "Old Lady" skin, lol.I spent a good deal of time tweeting about the class and sending lots of pictures to TwitPic, and was suprised at how

Kitchen Cosmetics: OCC Lip Tars

I freely admit it: I'm a lipstick klutz. I rarely wear lipstick of any sort because I tend to talk it off faster than it took to apply it, so it's not even worth the effort. People frequently ask me why I don't have any lip products on my website, to which my usual response is something to the effect of "how can I sell something I don't wear?" I know too little about the stuff to make anything

Oy, the Drama...

I've written and re-written this blog post countless times. I'm torn between posting and not, as it is my personal belief that it's unbecoming for a brand to poke fingers or disparage other companies. But then again, I haven't posted an update to this blog in nearly a month (somewhat intentionally, so that I can keep the Breast Cancer post on top).In the last few days, there has been quite a bit

Ingredients: What's beneficial for your skin type?

Yesterday, BionicBeauty did an excellent post about Acne Tips for Teens. Having a teenage daughter who suffers from bad acne, I was immediately drawn to her well researched information. If you suffer from acne, whether you're a teen or an adult, I highly recommend reading it.It also got me to thinking. Consumers are getting more savvy everyday about the ingredients in their makeup products, but

Makeup Tip: How to maximize your coverage without looking like it

With my 50th errrr, ummm, 29th birthday birthday looming next week, I've been examining my face closely. Let's face it; at 50 29, you're no longer a spring chicken, and unless you're a frequent flyer at the plastic surgeon, it shows on your skin.I remember the days when all I hated about my looks were my stomach and elephant legs. That was an easy solution: I wear lots of long dresses, and there

Good Habits: Brush Care 101

As many of you well know, I'm a self-proclaimed brush whore - and I know I'm not alone. How many of you have invested hundreds of dollars (if you're brave enough to total up what you've spent over the years) on brushes, but don't take proper care of them? Properly cared for, brushes can last forever. I remember the first time I washed one of my makeup brushes. It had never even occured to me that

Contouring Your Makeup

I watched this video on YouTube today. Not only is she extremely funny, it's a great tip! I immediately took some of my matte medium brown eye shadow, mixed it with some of my blush base mix and tried it out. OMG - my face lost 10 pounds! Think I can figure out how to contour my whole body? After I finish my Cream to Powders project, this might be my next project to develop. Wouldn't you know, of

Pressing Mineral Eye Shadows

The other day, Vanessa did a post on her blog about pressing her eye MAC pigments. Unfortunately, alcohol won't work on mineral eye shadows - they become hard as a rock and brittle as can be. But it got me thinking... I have all these palettes coming in for the new cream to powder shadows (hopefully, it will be on the website in the next couple of weeks):What if I end up with a whole bunch of
